One topic I, Tharon Chandler for the 7th District, believe to be uniquely enthusiastic about is the prospect for modern passenger rail in the Ozarks region, and the unique opportunity for counties and municipalities to invest in this project (and build it). When I say "modern" I mean ultra modern passenger rail that will be ultra safe (built on a new track above existing roadways, etc.) built of modern lightweight materials that will cost less in shipping, construction and maintenence; swift and convenient new transportation to be used by city dwellers, tourists, and rural travelers alike.
Every stop on the line will become a "thriving" business center. The track must have a "right of way" for which the authority of the project will have some lattitude yet counties and municipalities will (in some cases) be issued shares of preferred stock in the ownership of the line and, (in many cases) will enjoy the priveledge to purchase such preferred stocks. Shares of common stock will be on the market for all citizen investers (sales of which will include travel ticket options). This, briefly, is my projected vision for "The Missouri Tourist and Commuter Line" (a project to be built with Federal Transportation Funds and owned in 51% by the state of Missouri, yet not limited in range by state lines) a project that will connect to other transportation hubs such as airports, bus terminals, and train stations.
This is the way that missouri should spend our share of the subsidies that presently are going to airlines, road builders, and oil companies. Truly I believe that such a rail project has great environmental and fiscal efficiency potential, and will gain an increasing market share to profit state coffers, investors, and businesses along the line.
